Clear + Brilliant is a gentle fractional laser used to improve skin texture, tone and the early signs of ageing with minimal downtime. It is the treatment people often mean when they ask for something that freshens the skin without taking them out of circulation. Sage Dermatology offers it at our downtown Toronto clinic.
What it does
The laser creates microscopic treatment zones in the upper skin, prompting the body to replace them with new tissue. Over a course of treatments this improves smoothness, refines the look of pores, softens fine lines and evens out mild pigmentation and dullness.
It is deliberately mild. Clear + Brilliant will not treat deep wrinkles, significant acne scarring or laxity, and if those are your concerns a stronger fractional laser such as ResurFX, or radiofrequency microneedling, is the better use of your money. We would rather tell you that at the consultation than after a course of treatments.
Who it suits
It works well for people in their late twenties through forties who want maintenance rather than correction, for anyone preparing skin ahead of an event, and as an ongoing treatment alongside good skincare. It is generally safe across a wide range of skin tones, though settings are adjusted accordingly.
What to expect
Numbing cream is applied for about 30 minutes, and treatment itself takes roughly 20 minutes with a sensation of prickly warmth. Afterwards the skin is pink and feels rough, similar to fine sandpaper, for two to three days as the treated cells work their way out. Makeup can usually be worn the next day.
A course of four to six treatments spaced two to four weeks apart gives the clearest result, with maintenance sessions afterwards. A single treatment gives a brief glow rather than lasting change, which is worth knowing before you book one.

Clear + Brilliant is cosmetic and not covered by OHIP. Cost depends on the area and the number of sessions, confirmed at consultation. Receipts are provided for health spending accounts.
